Chemistry for JEE Mains and Advanced

How to prepare Chemistry for JEE ?

Chemistry is THE most scoring section of all 3 in the JEE Mains and Advanced paper. Chemistry is the subject which requires your least effort and time, and gives you the best result.

First of all, read each and every line of NCERT thoroughly and by heart. NCERT covers each and every detail and concept one needs to know to tackle JEE questions.

After this, refer to any of your favourite books for Chemistry to further study the chapter/topic in detail and to study more topics not covered in the NCERT. Read the chapter once again, and then attempt questions related to the topic. Practicing and attempting new questions is very important. If you don't practice questions regularly, you would not be able to memorize the formula and the concept used. Please practice a lot of questions.

After doing the above, refer to your JEE Question Banks and Previous Year Questions and try to attempt most of them. Practicing previous year questions is a very important thing, and one should definitely do it to get an idea of the type and difficulty of questions asked in JEE.

Some more tips:
•Memorize the formulas for Physical Chemistry and practice them a lot
•Study all the reactions in Organic Chemistry in JEE syllabus and please understand and memorize the mechanism those reactions follow!!
Mechanism of a reaction is very important in Organic Chemistry
•studying NCERT is enough for Inorganic Chemistry. 80% of the questions asked in JEE from Inorganic are from NCERT only.
•Solve a lot of Previous Year Questions
•Study Inorganic Chemistry repeatedly

You could refer to the following books for each section:

  1. Organic Chemistry: NCERT, OP Tandon(Theory), *SN Sanyal Arihant*(For Reactions and Mechanisms)
  2. Inorganic Chemistry: NCERT, OP Tandon(optional)
  3. Physical Chemistry: NCERT, P Bahadur(Questions), OP Tandon(Theory)

I would again repeat please practice a lot of questions in Chemistry and study the Reaction Mechanism again and again in Organic Chemistry. Most of the questions asked in JEE Advanced in Organic Chemistry test how well the student knows about the Reaction Mechanism.
