The Big Question : DTU, NSIT or IIIT Delhi?
Well, this has been like of the biggest dilemma for any students who wishes to join on of the above 3. For long, DTU and NSIT had dominated this race of the best college in Delhi, but in the past few years, IIIT Delhi has surely catch up and has been giving a tough competition. In this post, I would be giving a detailed and unbiased/neutral review of these 3 colleges, and which one should any student prefer.
NSIT and DTU
NSIT and DTU over the years have established a Big Brand Name. With many big companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon etc. coming here and offering huge packages to the students, they have attracted a lot of good quality of students. NSIT and DTU, are reputed college, with a strong alumni Network and Big Brand Names.
Pros(NSIT):
- Big Brand Name
- Strong Alumni Network
- Leading amongst the 3 in terms of cut-off
- Big Campus, with a developed Culture.
- Good number of student intake.
- Hostel easily available, for Delhi students as well.
- Good Placement Statistics
Pros(DTU):
- Big Brand Name
- Strong Alumni Network
- Big campus, developed Culture.
- More competition, in terms of no. of students.
IIIT Delhi
If you want to become a good Engineer, who has good knowledge of his subjects and want to work under one of the best teachers, then IIITD is the place for you. IIITD Delhi is a research oriented college, which lays a lot of stress in making their students learn. Most of the professors at IIITD have themselves pursued their Masters/PhD from prominent US Universities, and are considered to be one the best faculty in India.
Pros:
- Research Oriented College
- Best Academic Structure
- Best in class Faculty
- Word Class Infrastructure
- Good Placement Statistics
- Lesser no of student intake, more opportunities for each individual
Now, when it comes to quality of education, and more opportunities for getting into prominent foreign universities for MS, IIITD surely beats them all and leads the race. If you are planning to getting into research or pursuing MS, IIITD is your place. IIIT Delhi has comparatively greater work-load, but ultimately it helps you in becoming a better Engineer.
However, if you want to get associated with a Big Brand Name, a strong alumni network and want a great campus life, with a bigger peer network, NSIT and DTU would be your place, preferably NSIT. These colleges also offer good opportunities for getting into prominent foreign Universities for MS. Also, we have also seen many MBA aspirants getting into IIM, FMS etc. from these colleges.
Now if you ask, DTU or NSIT? I would say NSIT would be a better choice because the quality of education and resources have been degrading over the years. NSIT on the other hand has shown good improvement in its education, and placements.
Mr. Dheeraj Sanghi's (Professor, CSE Department, IIT Kanpur) opinion on Placements :
" Placement statistics can be twisted and looked at from multiple perspectives. I have often argued that the best indicators of placement are twofold: What percent of graduating students have been placed, and what is the median salary offered. Most institutes will tell you the highest packages, the number of foreign placements, and the average salary offered. They will never tell you the median offer. However, if you think about it, the foreign packages are received by a tiny fraction of the graduates. The median gives a much more realistic picture of what kind of placement packages were received this year. However, for almost any institute in the country, average will be higher than median, not just because of distortions that a foreign package would introduce, but invariably the highest packages would be structured in creative ways, will include costs to the company that you will never get as salary, and would include unrealistic bonuses. All that will inflate the average. And which institute would like to quote the lower number as its placement statistics? None, except IIIT-Delhi.
And, of course, my core belief is that placement statistics should be compared only when you are looking at Tier 3 institutes. When we are comparing good institutes which will all have close to more than 90% placement, and a confusing comparison, it is best to ditch placement statistics altogether and look at something more basic like quality of education which is best influenced by quality of faculty."
Thank You!
