DTU, NSIT or IIIT Delhi?

The Big Question : DTU, NSIT or IIIT Delhi?

Well, this has been like of the biggest dilemma for any students who wishes to join on of the above 3. For long, DTU and NSIT had dominated this race of the best college in Delhi, but in the past few years, IIIT Delhi has surely catch up and has been giving a tough competition. In this post, I would be giving a detailed and unbiased/neutral review of these 3 colleges, and which one should any student prefer.

NSIT and DTU
NSIT and DTU over the years have established a Big Brand Name. With many big companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon etc. coming here and offering huge packages to the students, they have attracted a lot of good quality of students. NSIT and DTU, are reputed college, with a strong alumni Network and Big Brand Names.

Pros(NSIT):
  • Big Brand Name
  • Strong Alumni Network
  • Leading amongst the 3 in terms of cut-off
  • Big Campus, with a developed Culture.
  • Good number of student intake.
  • Hostel easily available, for Delhi students as well.
  • Good Placement Statistics
Pros(DTU):
  • Big Brand Name
  • Strong Alumni Network
  • Big campus, developed Culture.
  • More competition, in terms of no. of students.

IIIT Delhi
If you want to become a good Engineer, who has good knowledge of his subjects and want to work under one of the best teachers, then IIITD is the place for you. IIITD Delhi is a research oriented college, which lays a lot of stress in making their students learn. Most of the professors at IIITD have themselves pursued their Masters/PhD from prominent US Universities, and are considered to be one the best faculty in India.

Pros:
  • Research Oriented College
  • Best Academic Structure
  • Best in class Faculty
  • Word Class Infrastructure
  • Good Placement Statistics
  • Lesser no of student intake, more opportunities for each individual

Now, when it comes to quality of education, and more opportunities for getting into prominent foreign universities for MS, IIITD surely beats them all and leads the race. If you are planning to getting into research or pursuing MS, IIITD is your place. IIIT Delhi has comparatively greater work-load, but ultimately it helps you in becoming a better Engineer.

However, if you want to get associated with a Big Brand Name, a strong alumni network and want a great campus life, with a bigger peer network, NSIT and DTU would be your place, preferably NSIT. These colleges also offer good opportunities for getting into prominent foreign Universities for MS. Also, we have also seen many MBA aspirants getting into IIM, FMS etc. from these colleges.
Now if you ask, DTU or NSIT? I would say NSIT would be a better choice because the quality of education and resources have been degrading over the years. NSIT on the other hand has shown good improvement in its education, and placements.

Mr. Dheeraj Sanghi's  (Professor, CSE Department, IIT Kanpur) opinion on Placements :

" Placement statistics can be twisted and looked at from multiple perspectives. I have often argued that the best indicators of placement are twofold: What percent of graduating students have been placed, and what is the median salary offered. Most institutes will tell you the highest packages, the number of foreign placements, and the average salary offered. They will never tell you the median offer. However, if you think about it, the foreign packages are received by a tiny fraction of the graduates. The median gives a much more realistic picture of what kind of placement packages were received this year. However, for almost any institute in the country, average will be higher than median, not just because of distortions that a foreign package would introduce, but invariably the highest packages would be structured in creative ways, will include costs to the company that you will never get as salary, and would include unrealistic bonuses. All that will inflate the average. And which institute would like to quote the lower number as its placement statistics? None, except IIIT-Delhi.

And, of course, my core belief is that placement statistics should be compared only when you are looking at Tier 3 institutes. When we are comparing good institutes which will all have close to more than 90% placement, and a confusing comparison, it is best to ditch placement statistics altogether and look at something more basic like quality of education which is best influenced by quality of faculty."

Thank You!

Strategy for Cracking JEE in 2019

Strategy for Cracking JEE in 2019

First of all, take a deep breath, coz you have fucking 2 years left with you. Which is good enough to crack JEE with any rank. However, to achieve it, you would need to give all your focus and dedication to preparing for JEE.

First and foremost thing which I tell every JEE aspirant is, * NEVER GIVE UP!! *. This is something which helped me a lot towards moving forward to my goal. During the next 2 years, your going to see many ups and down in your preparation, however remember, only the on who won't give up and would keep fighting till the end would be studying in his dream college, IIT.

JEE is a paper which tests a person's knowledge, speed, efficiency, aptitude, mental stamina and problem solving ability. That's why you don't pass JEE, you Crack it. You would need to work upon the above mentioned skills in the next 2 years.

Now in this post, I won't be telling you about the timeline or timetable that one needs to follow right now, as you have 2 years left with you, and it varies from person to person.

However, no matter what chapter/concept you study, give in your 100% in it. Practice as many questions as you can, so that you could get a good idea of what kinds of question can come in JEE, and also realise how to tackle them.

Please refer to the following links for review of the respective subjects:

Now, if possible try to complete your Class XI syllabus by December-January. After this, you could focus on your School Exams too, and move forward to Class 12 syllabus. Don't waste your 1 month holidays before Class 12 begins. You should not take much load in that month, and enjoy your holidays however, do start a little bit with class 12 syllabus, preferably Mathematics-Calculus and revise class 11's General Organic Chemistry.

I strongly recommend  to give up all Social Media platforms for these 2 year. I did the same, and am realising now the benefits of it. Please try to deactivate accounts from all Social Media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat etc. as these distract you a lot.  I know it's gonna be difficult initially, but in a few weeks, everything would just feel normal.

I won't be telling much about the exact strategy that needs to be followed as you have just entered Class XII, and I don't want to throw too much burden upon you guys.

And once again.....
NEVER GIVE UP !!

How to prepare Mathematics for JEE?

How to prepare Mathematics for JEE?

Mathematics turns out be either a bane or a boon for every JEE Aspirant. However, one thing I have noticed is that Mathematics is one of the strongest section of every JEE Topper. Mathematics is a section which is feared a lot amongst all JEE aspirants, only because it requires a little logic and tons of practice to master, which most of them don't do. Mathematics can be mastered by everyone, only and only by practicing as much as possible.

Now, Mathematics can be broadly divided into the following sections
  • Algebra and Complex Number
  • Coordinate Geometry
  • Calculus
  • Vectors and 3D Geometry
  • Probability and Statistics
  • Trigonometry

Trigonometry is generally required in other parts of JEE and there are hardly any pure Trigonometry questions asked in JEE. I would recommend to study and practice this section during the early stages of JEE preparation. Also, please memorize the important Trigonometry formulas, as they are used extensively.
Now, Calculus is the most scoring section of all of Mathematics for JEE. Calculus involves a little but of formula/trick memorizations, and lots of practice. I have seen even average students scoring full in Calculus part. All this section involves is some brain work, and practice.

Algebra!! Well, this is something which has been an nightmare to me too. This is a section which takes up a lot of time, but usually doesn't give comparatively better results. However, this doesn't mean you can ignore this section. This section in total constitute of nearly 40% of JEE Mathematics. Take this section very seriously, and try to wrap it up asap.

Similarly, Vector and 3D Geometry are also very-very scoring. It involves only a few type of questions, however put forward in a different style. This is according to me the most easy section of JEE, and constitute nearly 25% weightage of JEE Mathematics. Don't take this section lightly and practice it as much as possible.

Coordinate Geometry involves memorizing lots and lots of formulas. You would need to practice a variety of questions and devote a lot of time in practicing to this chapter. Circles is the most important part of this section.

Probability and Statistics is the toughest part of JEE Mathematics. It need to be understood well, conceptually and practically. Understanding of theorems and their right implementation is very important in this section.

There are many other smaller topics like Logarithms, Exponentials etc. which should be studied at the beginning, because they are extensively used in not only Mathematics, but Physics and Chemistry as well. Also basic differentiations and integration must be learn along with these, as these are also widely used in Mechanical Physics.

Books Recommended
  1. RD Sharma Objective JEE
  2. Cengage, for Calculus and Algebra specifically
  3. Mathematics Challenger by Disha/ or Arihant Mathematics Question Bank
  4. Previous Year Paper Question Banks
Please practice the Previous Year questions once you have studied the whole chapter, and have practiced from all the other Books available to you.

Now summing up, Practice is the only thing which can help you out in Mathematics. Devote most of your time of JEE preparation to Mathematics. Mathematics, if kept strong, could easily fetch you 100+ of 120 in JEE.

How to improve score in JEE Mock Tests ?

How to improve score in JEE Mock Tests ?

JEE has never been only about how much you know, and how well you can solve a given question. JEE Exams always test your knowledge, problem solving skills, speed, efficiency, temperament, and how well you can perform under pressure.

When ever we solve mock papers, we are working in a time bound situation, and we need to complete a given set of questions within a given time period.  You need to solve about 90 question in just 3 hours, which requires a good amount of speed, efficiency and mental stamina. Also, the environment and the examination temperament is far more different from what we experience at home. This is something which happens to every JEE aspirant and you don’t need to worry about it.

Now, to increase the number of questions solved during mock papers, you need to attempt more and more mock papers so that your mind and body get comfortable with this kind of situation. The more mock papers you attempt, the more you score day by day. This is the only way to get better in your mock papers.
Most of you are able to solve question when given alone. However, when given a set of questions to be solved in a given time, most of you stumble over there. By practising more and more Mock Tests, you're Mind would get used to this situation, and would be able to perform even better than before, every time.
Also, try to increase your problem solving speed at home as this also plays a major role in attempting more no of questions in the mock papers.

These practice would increase your speed, accuracy and will make you feel comfortable on the JEE day.
